Jose De Eusebio

Trained as a pianist and conductor in France, Austria, Hungary, Spain and in the USA as a Fulbright scholar, Spanish conductor,  José De Eusebio studied at the SALZBURG MOZARTEUM, in the WIENER MASTERKURSE, at the PIERRE MONTEAUX SCHOOL, and at the INTERNATIONAL MUSICIANS SEMINAR PRUSSIA COVE.

José de Eusebio was the winner of the 2001 LATIN GRAMMY AWARD for BEST CLASSICAL ALBUM, for his DECCA label recording of Albeniz’opera, MERLIN.

He was nominated for a Grammy in 2008, for best opera recording, alongside Zubin Mehta and Charles Mackerras, for his second Albeniz opera recording of PEPITA JIMENEZ, released in 2006 and starring Placido Domingo, on DEUTSCHE GRAMMAPHON.  He was the  winner of the 2002 CANNES CLASSICAL AWARD and a finalist in the 2001 GRAMAPHONE AWARDS.

His recording of MERLIN also won the CD COMPACT AWARD and he conducted the world premiere production of this same opera at the TEATRO REAL in Madrid, performances of which were released on DVD by BBC-OPUS ARTE.

His second major opera recording for the DECCA label was Albeniz’ HENRY CLIFFORD and as part of this same Albeniz recording project he is also due to record SAN ANTONIA DE LA FLORIDA, MAGIC OPAL, POEMES D’AMOUR, and LANCELOT along with Albeniz orchestral works.

His other recording include over seventeen CDs released by labels including DEUTSCHE GRAMMAPHON, DECCA, and COL LEGNO.

He has conducted in such major venues as Vienna´s MUSIKVEREIN, as well as the main concert halls of Mannheim, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Munich, etc. He has worked with such acclaimed artists as Placido Domingo, Carlos Álvarez, José Cura, Eva Marton, Carol Vaness, Alessandra Marc, Jane Henschel.

He has performed with major orchestras in Argentina, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden, Taiwan and the United States, as well as in such international festivals as the ASPEN MUSIC FESTIVAL in the USA.  His performance at the SAARBRUCKEN MUSIKFESTSPIELE was broadcast live throughout Europe by the U.E.R.

De Eusebio was invited to appear in the CONCERT FOR THE HEROES which was organized in Los Angeles after  the attacks on the WORLD TRADE CENTRE.

He has premiered works written by leading contemporary composers and is regularly engaged to conduct major symphonic pieces from a wide repertoire which includes such works as Messiaen’s TURANGALILA SYPHONIE, the Mahler symphonies, and most romantic and impressionistic works, as well as being a regular ballet conductor.

Recent engagements include a recording for DEUTSCHE GRAMMAPHON of Granados’ opera, MARIA DEL CARMEN, thought to be lost following the composer’s death in a u-boat attack during World War 1 as he returned to Europe from New York following the work’s premiere season at the METROPOLITAN OPERA. The recording, featuring Placido Domingo, and released in 2016 marked the 100th anniversary.
