Amsterdam-based, Eva Buchmann has established a considerable reputation as a director of a wide range of operatic repertoire in unique and highly original productions.
Since 2001 and 2002, her early engagements have included productions of DIE FLEDERMAUS for the BRABANTS ORCHESTRA and the CONCERTGEBOUW AMSTERDAM and Weber’s ABU HASSAN, again for the BRABANTS ORCHESTRA, Heinchen’s DIANA SULL’ ELBA for the CARMEL BACH FESTIVAL in the USA, the Mozart attributed DER STEIN DER WEISEN for THEATR WIELKI LODZ’s national tour of The Netherlands and for a DVD production and Stravinsky’s MAVRA for the GELDERS ORCHESTRA in The Netherlands.
Her production of COSI FAN TUTTE for OPERA KRAKOW toured Belgium and The Netherlands, her DON GIOVANNI was presented by FACTORY SCHATTDECOR in Munich and her direction of the same opera opened the new concert hall at De Doelen in Rotterdam.
She also directed open-air productions of THE MAGIC FLUTE and LA TRAVIATA for the NOORD NEDERLANDS ORCHESTRA.
She has work extensively over many years with COMBATTIMENTO CONSORT AMSTERDAM her engagements including Lully’s LE BOURGEOIS GENTILHOMME, Handel’s ORLANDO and AGRIPPINA for its European touring production to Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, Bratislava and Ljubljana, Biber’s ARMINIO and Salieri’s PRIMA LA MUSICA POI LA PAROLE.
Her recent freelance engagements, during the 2013/2014 season included a revival of OPERA BASEL’s production of DON GIOVANNI and YSALON’s production of Bach’s JAGDKANTATE with members of the KONINKLIJK CONCERTGEBOUW ORCHESTRA in Amsterdam, and Rossini’s LA GAZZETTA for OPERA ST. MORITZ, where in the previous season she also directed DON GIOVANNI.
2014/2015 saw her engaged by HEXAGON ENSEMBLE for its Netherlands touring production of LA CENERENTOLA, by VIN OPERA FESTIVAL TUSCANY for Telemann’s PIMPINONE and for LA GAZZETTA by OPERA BASEL.
During the 2015/2016 European season she directed DON GIOVANNI for THEATRE CARRÉ in The Netherlands.
In 2016/2017 her production of Handel’s SEMELE was presented by TEATER WIELKI LODZ, and she directed Haydn’s LO SPEZIALE at the BOSBES FESTIVAL in The Netherlands and Rossini’s LA CENERENTOLA at the PICCOLO FESTIVAL D’UDINE in Italy.
Eva Buchmann’s 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons, saw her direct LO SPEZIALE for the PUNTO ARTE tour of The Netherlands for the KÖLNER KAMMERORCHESTER jubilee year celebrations in performances at the TONHALLE ZURICH, the TEATRO NACIONAL DE CATELUNYA BARCELONA and the COLOGNE PHILHARMONIE, a production of Ziegler’s TOTAL VERRÜKT for the AMSTERDAM HOLOCAUST MUSEUM and a co-production of COSI FAN TUTTE with OPERA JERUSALEM and PICCOLO FESTIVAL D’UDINE, and Dutch film production company DE HAAIEN, and also THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO for PICCOLO FESTIVAL D’UDINE and THEATER RIJEKA, Croatia.
She also directed a production of Handel’s ALCINA for the NIKIKAI OPERA THEATRE in Tokyo during 2018.
2019 included her production of LO SPEZIALE with the HESSICHER RUNDFUNK ORCHESTER FRANKFURT, and the ORCHESTRA OF STUTTGART, and a new production of the opera for the THEATER WIELKI LODZ, Mozart’s DER SCHAUSPIELDIREKTOR for the TONHALLE ORCHESTER ZURICH and Rameau’s PLATÉE for the LODZ MUSIC ACADEMY.
