Since then his operatic experience has included understudying the title role in Mozart’s opera, LA CLEMENZA DI TITO for the MASTERWORKS FESTIVAL in Indiana, USA in 2006 and a return invitation by this same festival to perform the role of Gastone in Verdi’s LA TRAVIATA during 2007.
Also in the USA, during 2007, he appeared in the cast of the premiere season on Broadway of the musical, ANGELS.
He understudied the role of Ferrando in VICTORIAN OPERA’s season of Mozart’s COSI FAN TUTTE in 2007 and was engaged to sing both Basilio and Curzio in extensive performances of THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO for MELBOURNE OPERA, appeared as Amorino in David Kram’s opera, UNA CARTOLINA DA CARLTON for MORE THAN OPERA and sang the role of Alfredo in the same company’s performances of TRAVIATA EN MINIATURE in the FAMOUS SPIEGELTENT as parts of its 2007 MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL SEASON. He has also recorded for MORE THAN OPERA.
Boyd Owen’s concert work includes being soloist in OPERA IN THE ALPS for AUSTRALIAN MUSIC EVENTS in both 2006 and 2007 and for the same company’s OPERA BY THE LOCK at Mildura and has appeared as soloist for OPERA IN THE PARK for STONNINGTON CITY COUNCIL in Melbourne.
Boyd Owen joined THE TEN TENORS in 2009 and toured extensively as a member of this group, throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia until 2012.
He was also engaged as the voice of CARLTON UNITED BREWERIES‘ Nessun Dorma television advertisement campaign during 2010 and 2011.
Engagements during 2012 included a return to OPERA IN THE ALPS for AUSTRALIAN MUSIC EVENTS and appearances in China with soprano, Ying Huang, famous for her portrayal of the role Cio-Cio San in Frederic Mitterand’s 1995 film adaption of Puccini’s MADAM BUTTERFLY.
During late-2012 and early-2013 he appeared in a series of some twenty concert versions of Bizet’s CARMEN and other operatic repertoire throughout China.
Boyd Owen was the 2013 winner of the ORVIETO OPERA COMPETITION in Italy. He appeared, in late 2013, as Basilio in THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO and Primo Guidice in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, both as part of the SPAZIO MUISCA FESTIVAL in Orvieto. He also appeared as Peter Quint in performances of Britten’s THE TURN OF THE SCREW at the TEATRO COMUNALE DI BOLOGNA and returned to the company during 2014 to sing the tenor solo role in Britten’s BALLAD OF HEROES. Other engagements during 2014 included Ramiro in LA CENERENTOLA for TEATRO DELL’OPERA GIOCOSO in Savona and a return to the SPAZIA MUSIC FESTIVAL in the lead role of Nemorino in L’ELISIR D’AMORE.
During 2015 he appeared as Ernesto in DON PASQUALE for TEATRO COMMUNALE DI BOLOGNA and as Ramiro in LA CENERENTOLA for TEATRO SOCIALE DI ROVIGO.
His future engagements during 2016 include his debut for OPERA DI FIRENZE, at the MAGGIO MUSICALE FIORENTINO, as Lindoro in THE ITALIAN GIRL IN ALGIERS, a return to TEATRO COMMUNALE DI BOLOGNA for the role of Belmonte in Mozart’s DIE ENTFUHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL and Don Narciso in IL TURCA IN ITALIA for TEATRO COMMUNALE DI PIACENZA and TEATRO ALIGHIERI DI RAVENNA.
In Australia, during 2016, he was engaged to sing the role of Percy in Donizetti’s ANNA BOLENA for MELBOURNE OPERA, performances of which the HERALD SUN said, From first appearance, golden-toned tenor Boyd Owen gave an appealingly strong and well-measured performance as Percy, and SIMON PARRIS: MAN IN A CHAIR writing, Boyd Owen was a clear audience favourite. A neatly understated dramatic actor, Owen maintains a focused presence while allowing the spotlight to remain on the key female characters. Owen’s tenor voice pours forth luxuriously, reaching high notes with seemingly little effort.
Boyd Owen’s appearances during 2017 include his North American debut as the soloist in CARMINA BURANA at New York’s CARNEGIE HALL and Mendelssohn’s ELIJAH in Shanghai.
He is the winner of the 2017 SYDNEY EISTEDDFOD OPERA SCHOLARSHIP.
