Ricardo Tamura

Brazilian tenor, Ricardo Tamura studied under Carlo Bergonzi, Licia Albanese and Bernhard Lang.

He was first engaged by the International Opera Studio of OPERNHAUS ZURICH and has subsequently made a career singing regularly at such houses as STAATSOPER HANNOVER, the DEUTSCHE OPER AM RHEIN, STAATSTHEATER NUREMBERG and STAATSTHEATER KASSEL and at the VIENNA VOLKSOPER.

He became the first Brasilian tenor ever to be engaged in a leading role by the METROPOLITAN OPERA NEW YORK when he made his debut as Cavaradossi in TOSCA in 2013, performances which he repeated for the company in 2015.   His other appearances at the METROPOLITAN OPERA include the title role of DON CARLO and Riccardo in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA  in the 2014/2015 season and Turiddu in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA in 2015/2016.

His other engagements during the period from 2013 to 2016 included Calaf  in TURANDOT for DEUTSCHE OPER AM RHEIN and OPER LEIPZIG, Alfredo in LA TRAVIATA for STAATSTHEATER NURNBERG, the title role of TANNHÄUSER at THEATER PLAUEN, Turridu at the DEUTSCHE OPER AM RHEIN and also at STAATSTHEATER HANNOVER and THEATER KLAGENFURT, Don José in CARMEN  for MAINFRANKEN THEATER WURZBURG and also for THEATER KOBLENZ.

Of his performances in the title role of OTELLO for THEATER HAGEN in 2014, DER WESTEN wrote, Tamura’s tenor is unusually beautiful… a visit to the opera is definitely worthwhile for Tamura alone., while OMM said, with Tamura in the title role, it is admirable how he seems to effortlessly assert himself against the orchestra… his tenor bright… powerfully radiant and also incontestable in range., and NMZ commented, Tamura is a fabulous, brilliant singer with inexhaustible reserves for this big and strenous role.

Elsewhere in the UK, Europe and the USA since 2013, he has appeared as Radames in AIDA at the ARENA DI VERONA, as Bacchus in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS for WELSH NATIONAL OPERA, as Erik in THE FLYING DUTCHMAN at the FESTIVAL OPERA DE BELEM in Brazil and also Florestan in FIDELIO for TEATRO MUNICIPAL DE SAO PAULO, and as Calaf for WICHITA GRAND OPERA.  In Italy his roles have included Des Grieux in MANON LESCAUT for TEATRO SOCIALE DI ROVIGO and also for TEATRO DI PISA and TEATRO GOLDONI in Livorno while he has also appeared in the same role for JERUSALEM OPERA and ISRAELI OPERA TEL AVIV.

Ricardo Tamura’s most recent seasons have included Calaf for both OPER LEIPZIG and THEATER KOBLENZ and Don José at STAATSOPER NURNBERG all during the 2017/2018 season while his 2018/2019 season included the title role in RIENZI for PFALZTHEATER KAISERSLAUTERN and Cavaradossi in TOSCA at the STADTTHEATER OSNABRUCK and THEATER AM DOMHOF.

2019/2020 saw him give him performances as Des Grieux in MANON LESCAUT for the ANHALTISCHES THEATER DESSAU.
