A descendant of the Wakka Wakka people from Queensland, Australian didgeridoo player Chris Williams began his music studies at an early age.

He studied trumpet at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and also earned a Masters degree in trumpet performance at London’s Royal College of Music.

He has appeared as guest principal trumpet with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Pops Orchestra and the Australian Youth Orchestra. He was nominated for the Australian Freedman Fellowship Award for Jazz and for the Australian Young Achiever Award twice.

Currently Artist in Residence with the Southern Cross Soloists, Williams is regarded as one of Australia’s leading didgeridoo soloists.

He has performed extensively internationally, his appearances including solo didgeridoo performances throughout Africa and in Israel, at Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and the Vatican and has performed the Sean O’Boyle/William Barton Concerto for Didgeridoo with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and has been engaged soloist for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Classic 100 in Concert.

In 2022, in partnership with the Southern Cross Soloists, Williams embarked on an ambitious ten year “Didgeridoo Commission Project” creating collaborations with established composers to produce three new works each year for didgeridoo and chamber ensemble, the catalogue to date achieving nominations for APRA AMCOS Awards and including works by Sean O’Boyle, John Rotar, Leah Curtis, Joe Twist, Matthew Dewey, James Morrison and Grammy Award winning guitarist, John Jorgenson.
