Praised for his clearly articulated, vocally nuanced baritone (Frankfurter Allgemeine), 26-year-old Munich-based baritone Jeremy Boulton has emerged as a dynamic and versatile performer across opera, operetta and musical.
An Australian with Greek and British citizenship, Boulton grew up in Wollongong and began vocal training at the age of seven with soprano Rachel Bate. He studied at the Opera School of the SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC with Maree Ryan AM and in 2023 attended the prestigious GEORG SOLTI ACCADEMIA in Tuscany.
As a member of the Opera Studio at Munich’s STAATSTHEATER AM GÄRTNERPLATZ since 2023, Boulton has given debuts as Masetto in DON GIOVANNI, Dancaïre and Moralès in CARMEN, Fiorello in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, Cascada in THE MERRY WIDOW and Bishop Myriel in LES MISÉRABLES .
He will subsequently join the ensemble of contracted principal artists at STAATSTHEATER AM GÄRTNERPLATZ for the 2025/2026 season continuing his performances in the aforementioned roles and including his debut as Guglielmo in COSI FAN TUTTE and Barone Douphol in LA TRAVIATA, Bob in THE OLD MAID AND THE THIEF and Le Podestat in LE DOCTEUR MIRACLE.
His current guest engagements in Europe have taken him to SAARLÄNDISCHES STAATSTHEATER as Death in SAVITRI, to THEATER ERFURT for Marco in GIANNI SCHICCHI and to THEATER ST. GALLEN for LES MISÉRABLES.
Previously in Australia, his roles have included Marcello in LA BOHÈME, Papageno in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Demetrius in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, Count Almaviva in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Aeneas in DIDO & AENEAS.
On the concert stage, a recent highlight of the 2024/25 season was his soloist debut with the CHOR DES BAYERISCHEN RUNDFUNKS, performing the baritone solo in Brahms’ EIN DEUTSCHES REQUIEM. Other solo appearances have included the Mozart REQUIEM, Handel’s MESSIAH, DIXIT DOMINUS andthe role of ABNER in ATHALIA, Schubert’s MESSE IN G, Haydn’s MISSA SANCTI NICOLAI, Charpentier’s MESSE DE MINUIT, Bach Cantatas BWV 38, 82, & 166, Michael Haydn’s REGINA COELI, and Telemann’s MACHET DIE TORE WEIT.
His competition winnings include the IFAC HANDA AUSTRALIAN SINGING COMPETITION, becoming at 23-years-old one of the youngest winners in the competition’s history, First Prize in the SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL SONG PRIZE, Second Prize in the Bel Canto Award of the JOAN SUTHERLAND AND RICHARD BONYNGE FOUNDATION, the Theater Erfurt Engagement Prize at the 41ST INTERNATIONAL HANS GABOR BELVEDERE SINGING COMPETITION and joint 1st Prize at the 4TH FRESNO STATE ART SONG FESTIVAL in California.
He has also been a recipient of the Marianne Mathy Scholarship and Nicole Car Prize, the Opera Australia Regional Student Scholarship, Marten Bequest Scholarship, Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship, George and Margaret Henderson Scholarship, Malcolm Donnelly Award, Demant Dreikurs scholarship, Elizabeth Todd Lieder Prize, Margaret Olive Stewart Bequest Scholarship, John Holt Todd and Florence Todd Scholarship, PATIM Fund Scholarship and a partial Mary Lopez TDP scholarship. He has also received support from the Sidney Myer Fund & The Myer Foundation’s National Assistance Program and an Italian language merit scholarship to L’Università Per Stranieri di Perugia through L’Istituto di Cultura, Sydney.
