Diana Higbee has become one of the most regarded of the new generation of Mozart singers. She holds French, American and New Zealand citizenship and currently resides in Le Mans, France.
Higbee’s initial career establishment was rapid her initial roles including Donna Anna in DON GIOVANNI on DVD from OPÉRA DE DIJON, staged by Jean-Yves Ruf with the CHAMBER ORCHESTRA OF EUROPE, the performance broadcast live on MEDICI TV and FRANCE 3 and FORUM OPERA writing, Diana Higbee’s Donna Anna is simply unreal with vocal perfection and ease; an exceptional art of singing. She also sang the same role at the ANTIBES FESTIVAL with the ORCHESTRE DE L’OPÉRA DE TOULON as well as at the JOURNÉES LYRIQUES DE CHARTRES with the ORCHESTRE PROMÉTHÉE conducted by Pierre-Michel Durand also at the LACOSTE FESTIVAL.
She went on to sing Frasquita in CARMEN at OPÉRA DE TOULON and Mélisande in PELLÉAS ET MÉLISANDE at the BERGEN OPERA with the OXALYS ENSEMBLE and Marit Strindlund conducting, also repeating role in the Wouter van Looy production at the VLAAMSE OPERA in Antwerp. In Vienna she appeared as Le Femme in Milaud’s LE PAUVRE MATELOT and as Yvonne in George Antheil’s VENUS IN AFRICA at the WIENER KAMMEROPER while in Paris she has sung the title role of the world premiere performances of Martin Besançon’s EMILY DICKINSON conducted by Philippe Barbey-Lallia and the title role of THAÏS for the Massenet Centenary. In addition, she has given performances of Rosalinda in DIE FLEDERMAUS on tour throughout France conducted by Amaury du Closel.
She has appeared in the title role of Donizetti’s Rita at the FESTSPIELE AUF BURG GOLLING in Salzburg, as Micaela in CARMEN for TEATER VANEMUINE in Estonia, in the role of Isoline in Satie’s GENEVIEVE DE BRABANT for OPÉRA NATIONAL DE MONTPELLIER, and for OPÉRA DE NANCY, as Martella in LA VIE PARISIENNE for the FESTIVAL LYRIQUE DE SAINT-CÉRÉ and as Euridice in ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD for LES ESTIVALES DE PUISAYE.
On the concert platform Higbee has appeared regularly at such leading venues as the VIENNA MUSIKVEREIN and the STADTHALLE BAYREUTH and in the programs of the CIRCULO DE BELLAS ARTES in Madrid, the GULBENKIAN FOUNDATION and the Aix-en-Provence, Lourdes, Ambronay, Annecy and Utrecht festivals.
She has given the world premiere performances of LA BELLE AGAMICE, a song cycle for soprano and orchestra composed especially for her by Olivier Calmel.
She has worked with conductors including Giuliano Carella, Paul McCreesh, Nicolaus Richter, Kenneth Weiss, Dominique Daigremont, Benjamin Pionnier, Bernhard Klebel and Pierre-Michel Durand and of her work, CLASSIQUE INFO has said, An extraordinary presence, a voice like a thread of silk, a rare perfection and absolutely magnificent., while the NORDBAYERISCHER KURIER has written, a voice full of agility, brilliance and a wonderful grace.
